Peak launches Industry’s first Lead-Free Impression Block for Well Intervention Fishing

Peak Well Systems has launched the Peak Impression Block (PIB), a unique lead-free tool for taking high definition impressions of objects within the wellbore.  The PIB reduces operating time and offers users a safe and environmentally friendly alternative to Lead Impression Blocks (LIBs), whilst also enhancing the impression taken downhole.

Despite being well documented as a harmful and toxic substance to handle, lead is still used widely in Lead Impression Blocks because there has been no alternative to date.  With the launch of the PIB, Peak offers a game-changing alternative to companies that promote health and safety to their employees, and who claim to be environmentally responsible.

Peak’s PIB offers a number of benefits over LIBs:

  • It uses high performance impression inserts that are 100% lead free, eliminating health and environmental issues
  • The inserts can be changed over quickly and easily within seconds, enabling used inserts to be kept as a permanent record of operation
  • It has a higher working temperature envelope and is well suited to ultra high-temp applications where lead would normally melt.

Tim Williams, Business Development Director at Peak Well Systems, commented: “Whilst lead-free products are widely available to the consumer market, offshore workers are still required to work with lead-filled impression blocks - filing them down manually and repouring them - on a regular basis.” He continued: “The PIB produces high definition impressions with much greater depth compared to traditional LIBs; impressions can be easily shipped and retained for analysis; and present innumerable health and environmental benefits to the user.”

Peak has already received significant interest in the PIB from Operators and taken a number of orders prior to its official launch to the market this month.  The PIB is available in 19 different OD sizes suited to 2 7/8”, 3 ½”, 4 ½”, 5 ½” and 7” completions.
