Specialist downhole tool provider Peak Well Systems has launched an extended range of patented SIM System technologies for flow control. Exhibiting at a well intervention industry event in Aberdeen this week, Peak launched its new 5” and 5 ½” SIM System products – including the highly successful SIM Retrievable Bridge Plugs – which deliver ultimate flexibility for well intervention and production enhancement. The new SIM products complement an existing range which, together, now caters for most industry sizes, from large 5 ½” wells to slim 2 3/8” wells.
The unique design of the SIM System means that, unlike other plugs available, a SIM Plug can be set anywhere in the tubing because it does not require a nipple profile. Moreover, it can be set mechanically on slickline thus eliminating the need for complex setting tools, pyrotechnics or explosives, and therefore making deployment much safer and more cost effective than other options.
The SIM System was first developed in 2005 for a major international operator in Asia Pacific who still uses Peak’s SIM System technologies as their plug system of choice in all operations today. Peak now delivers the SIM System to customers worldwide, however the launch of this larger bore version for 5” and 5 ½” wells will see its global reach further extended.
Peak’s Global Sales Director, Mark Nicol, commented: “Even before the official launch, we have already received orders for this new larger bore SIM System; the first of these systems were delivered earlier this month to a major international operator.”
The product range includes a number of interchangeable modular components, all built around the SIM Running Tool as the primary means of deployment. These include Plug Systems (both retrievable and permanent), mechanical leak detection tools, gas lift straddles and large bore gauge hangers, all of which can be set on slickline.
